Hi... My name is John Imbur and I'm in Unit 2 next to Larry. A graduate of Virginia Tech in '91, I have taken a rather circuitous route before returning to the 'burg. Having most recently lived in the DC area for the better part of six years, in 2001 I came to the conclusion that I would much rather live an intentional life with others with similar or shared values in a place that satisfies my personal passions for the outdoors than to live in a place where I happen to work that suffers from congestion, high cost of living, and (relatively) low quality of life. So what better place to settle down than in Blacksburg. And what better place to settle down in Blacksburg than in Shadowlake Village. I first found out about SLV as I hiked by on the Appalachian Trail in the fall of 2000 and after completing my southbound AT hike in December eventually found my way back. Smitten by the beauty of the property, taken by the strength of the community, and fascinated by the idea of co-housing, I was a full member in less than a week once I got back to Blacksburg. I have always had a strong interest in community and feel like SLV and co-housing in general represent a sparkling alternative to typical development. As a single guy in a five bedroom house, I have taken in housemates from time to time, creating what I like to think of as co-housing in co-housing. Even though we are built out, there are nooks and crannies for people to roost here in SLV in my house and others ranging from rooms to more private accommodations... feel free to contact me at the e-mail above if you'd like more info on what might be available with me or with others. What are my interests? I love to hike and kayak, cook, laugh, lose myself in the beauty of nature, spend time with friends and family, and do absolutely nothing in the middle of nowhere for no particularly good reason. I believe my return to Blacksburg is the beginning of many excellent adventures and that the greatest sin is to go through life on autopilot missing the small moments that make it all worth while.
