Donna Douglas -
I'm an original member of Shadowlake Village, but currently live in Floyd County where I own and operate Hawk's Ridge Retreat and Nature Sanctuary. My mother, Betty Douglas, lives in our unit at Shadowlake.
Besides my mother, I'm lucky to have my two grown children, their partners and 2 teen-aged grandchildren living in the area.
I've lived and travelled in many parts of the U.S.A. and abroad. My work has been varied also, ranging from psychotherapist to field technician/housemother for a Wolf and Coyote research group. Currently my passions are art, gardening, and restoring the native species of plants and animals at Hawk's Ridge. I'm committed to emotional and spiritual growth, am outgoing but also need times of solitude.
Betty Douglas -
Betty moved from suburban Chicago to Shadowlake Village Cohousing in 2002. She's a retired teacher of 26 years who taught English and Special Ed. She speaks French, Spanish and Portuguese, enjoys bird watching, and demonstrated spinning and weaving at an historic gristmill in Illinois. She worked in her son's locksmith shop for years and is an expert key cutter. She winters in Port Aransas, Texas with her daughter and son-in-law.
Betty has always loved the New River Valley area and worked toward her relocation for a long time. She likes the diversity of interests and ages that are available at Shadowlake Village and enjoys being the senior member. In her spare time she's an avid reader who shares literary discussions with other readers in the community. She hopes to start crafting glass art objects soon.
