Visiting Shadowlake Village

Interested persons are welcome to visit and see what a cohousing project is like. Please call or e-mail us to arrange a mutually convenient time for your visit.

Please tell us what you're interested in so we can better prepare for the visit, for example, that you might want to live at SLV one day or are curious about cohousing or are studying alternative housing for a class, or whatever it may be.

Driving instructions to get to Shadowlake Village are below.   After you've turned onto our property on Sage Lane, drive part way up the hill and turn right onto Ginger Lane, where a sign tells visitors to turn right.   Find a place to park at the end of Ginger Lane behind the lower level of the Common House -- the large gray-sided, red-roofed building near the end of Ginger Lane.   A short up-hill walk on the road next to the Common House will bring you to the center of the community and you will easily locate whoever is expecting you.

For our children's safety-- The road that goes through our neighborhood past the Common House is for emergency vehicle access only and is not a general roadway.   It is usually blocked, but occasionally will appear to be a through street.   Young children are out playing, running about and riding their trikes on and near that "street" (really a pedestrian way) in all kinds of weather.

Therefore, when you leave, please drive back the way you came -- don't try to drive through the center of our community even if the way is open.  Thank you for protecting our children!

Driving instructions

From Interstate 81 exit 118, take the 460W Bypass to Blacksburg, following the signs to Virginia Tech and Bluefield WV.   Stay on Route 460W until you have passed through a traffic light at the Southgate entrance to Virginia Tech.

Take the next exit after the traffic light, taking you onto Price's Fork Road towards "Downtown", and get into the left lane.   Make a left at the first traffic light onto University City Blvd.   Go left again at the traffic light on University City Blvd, towards the Kroger supermarket, onto Glade Road.   (Skip the next paragraph.)

If you come into Blacksburg on South Main Street instead of via the 460 bypass, keep going all the way on Main Street to and through downtown Blacksburg, and past the Alumni Mall entrance to Virginia Tech.   When you pass a Taco Bell restaurant, get into the left lane.   Turn left at the next traffic light, just past a Wendy's restaurant, onto Price's Fork Road -- this is a main road that dead-ends at Main Street.   Stay on Price's Fork Road through two more traffic lights, and at the 3rd light (just past a Holiday Inn) make a right onto University City Blvd.   Go left at the first traffic light on University City Blvd, towards the Kroger supermarket, onto Glade Road.

On Glade Road: Drive 1/2 mile and turn right onto Shadow Lake Road, which is the first street on the right -- it has a different name (Lark Lane) to the left.   After another 1/2 mile, look for the big "Shadowlake Village" entry sign on the left in the middle of a sharp S-curve.

Turn left onto our entrance road, Sage Lane, and drive uphill on Sage Lane, ignoring the short stub road that goes back to Shadow Lake Road. Turn right near the top of the hill onto Ginger Lane where you will be able to park.

Our entry sign is just off Shadow Lake Road. The pavement at the right is Sage Lane, which goes uphill. Near the top of Sage Lane, Ginger Lane cuts off to the right and runs past the visible row of houses towards the Common House.
